Your Skin from winter to spring

For 3 month we were trying to stay warm and now it is time for more happier days at least for our skin! Why? Let’s look at what happened to our skin in winter and how to be ready for spring for the skin to bloom!

Every season has different effects on our skin. Dry skin and eczema are some of the most common dermatological issues experienced by people, especially in winter. Your skin becomes itchy and flakey, It can’t be covered with makeup, and it needs constant moisturizing making it very troublesome.

Cold weather especially cold wind, combined with increased use of central heating has a drying effect on the skin. Cold air tightens the skin’s pores and reduces blood circulation. It also reduces the naturally occurring oil known as sebum, which acts as a protective layer and traps moisture next to the skin, as well as aggravates existing conditions that already make the skin prone to cracking and flaking. Spring is the time of the year when you will notice that oiliness, acne problems, or even allergies surface along with the first burst of sun exposure.

Changing weather from cold to warm results to increased humidity, while the blooming of flowers also contributes in making the skin extra sensitive and prone to flare-ups or skin eruptions. So the question is:

How can we eliminate dead skin and make it GLOW after winter?

There are several important steps to follow.

  • Determine the problem.

First of all you need to determine the route cause of your skin issues.

If you have chronic eczema we recommend visiting your dermatologist for medical advice and staying away from harsh chemical irritants you may be using on your skin. Try to use natural and organic oils, organic clay masks and wash with gentle PH balanced soaps. In very cold and dry weather it may help to apply oil to your hands and wear cotton or wool gloves. This allows your hands to soak up the oils without making a mess, keeping them soft and supple.

  • Check your diet.

Of Course the nutrients we intake impact our skin. If we are deprived of nutrients or vitamins it may cause your skin to suffer. We recommend that you make sure to eat at least five portions of fruits and vegetables a day to stay healthy and fit. You may also need to take supplements but in order to determine whether or not you may be vitamin deficient please visit your doctor and ask for a test.

  • You’re not drinking enough water?

A dehydrated body has dehydrated skin which will look flakey and dull. Water is the best thing we can drink but note that other things we drink and even eat affect our water levels. Foods like lettuce, which is made up of 96% water, will also help us rehydrate and are packed with vital vitamins and minerals that do wonders for our skin. According to the NHS we should drink 1.2 – 2 Liters of water a day.

  • Exfoliate, but be very gentle.

Flakey and dead skin may look like dandruff with a white and speckled appearance and it may start to peel. By using the organic facial exfoliating mitt (great thing if you have a sensitive skin) three times a week your skin will drastically improve in appearance.
Use on your face, neck and lips gently just by wetting the mitt and skin before applying creams, and makeup.

For your body we recommend either the organic silk body exfoliating mitt for sensitive skin or our vegan exfoliating mitt for oily to normal skin. All are dermatologically tested and are certified as very good in the effectiveness of use. Use the body mitts while showering, wait 3 to 5 minutes in a warm shower for your skin to become soft and wet. Start to scrub with gentle force in round motions are the body.

  • Moisturize!

Moisturize with organic oils or sensitive creams that do not contain fragrance or harsh chemicals. In between using the Harem Secret mitts try to spend no longer than 15 minutes in water or baths as you may end up stripping your skin of its own natural oils. Always apply your moisturizer or organic oils right after showering or bathing to lock in the moisture. The harem secret organic and vegan body scrub mitts actually increase the effectiveness of such creams and oils!

Stay happy and healthy!
